Biography

My visual language is shaped by the chiaroscuro of Caravaggio, the visionary and intense narrative detail of Gustave Doré, the anatomical and symbolic mastery of Leonardo da Vinci, the surreal dimension of Salvador Dalí, the atmospheric intensity of J.M.W. Turner, and the psychological depth of Goya.

2022-2025

Current oeuvre includes the figurative and surreal style works. The artist moved to Paris and participates actively in the art scene, establishing exhibition and gallery collaborations. She currently lives in Paris where she exhibits frequently, and works in Amsterdam.

2010-2020

During this period, the artist refined and mastered the craft and produced over 100 sketches, building the foundation of her later works. Her early series explored abstract techniques and resin based acrylic techniques, resulting in glass-like finishes of the works. These series includes artworks that discover depth and color compositions. In later works, a revival of classical techniques on canvas instead of paper was explored.

Education

Sara Monteiro attended Maastricht University for her BS and MS studies in Psychology.
